 This information is to help protect our employees and inform them of preventable hazards on the job.

How to Avoid

Electrical Accidents

Do follow the rules and obey signs, locks, and other electrical hazard warnings.

Do stay at least 10 feet from power lines.

Do check that cord insulation is in good condition.

Do prevent insulation damage by not

Tangling cords

Running cords along floor

Using cords as rope

Fastening cords with nails or other sharp fasteners

Do use only approved equipment and cords in areas with flammables.

Do keep the work area clean and throw out paper, oil rags, and burnable material.

 

Do not work on live electrical equipment unless you are qualified.

Do not perform lockouts unless you are trained and assigned.

Do not touch anything electrical while:

Standing in a wet area or with wet hands

Wearing metal jewelry or a metal hard hat

Holding or touching a metal ladder or tool

Do not reach blindly into an area that could contain electrical equipment.

Do not overload motors, outlets or circuits

Do not let flammable material contact electrical equipment.
